I noticed today that my ignition cylinder wobbles up and down a bit. Is this a problem, or can I safely ignore it?

I looked it up and according to webmd, it's cancer. I'm sorry about your car.
But seriously, it might need new shims or something.

AHHHH!!!! Wait, you're not driving a bread-van. Ok, nothing to worry about here...

If it's a Cobalt, you're clearly going to die.

Wait, I though only GM cars did this. Does it shut off while you are driving? If not, don't worry about it. You can wait until it stops working altogether, leaving you stranded someplace, no problem. At least you won't have fiery death!

I'll just have to work on my hotwiring skills in the meantime.

CarMD would have the same answer for every single issue. "See a medical professional mechanic without delay!"

Types in, "grumbling noise from wheel"
Results: "Looks like rust. See a mechanic without delay!"

Wanna really blow your mind? Lock the steering wheel then try to turn it left and right. The ignition cylinder will move up and down with the movement of the wheel.
Because Subaru.

It *probably* isn't a problem... but when you have time, I suggest taking the cover off the steering column and have a look at what's going on.

Freaked me out the first time one of my Subaru's did it.... but never affected anything. Yours is probably okay as well.
